Native Orchid Society blooms thanks to community grant

David Janetzki MP congratulates Native Orchid Society of Toowoomba president Matthew Irwin on the club’s community grant which they used to hold a spring show.

The Native Orchid Society of Toowoomba held a spectacular spring show recently thanks to a community grant.

The club has been running for 53 years and continues to flourish in strength and numbers each year.

Acting secretary David Jannusch said the club received a Gambling Community Benefit Fund Grant of $3,235 which they used to hold their 2022 Native Orchid Spring Show during the Carnival of Flowers.

Mr Jannusch has always been an avid gardener and joined the club about four years ago.

“We host regular meetings which are well-attended, social events and trips away,” Mr Jannusch said.

“We enjoy sharing our knowledge with new members,” he said.

“It seems to be an older person’s game, native orchid growing. King Orchids are my favourite.”

Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki MP attended the spring show to congratulate the club on their successful grant.

“The club’s spring show was a beautiful display of expertly cultivated native orchids,” Mr Janetzki said.

“Clubs such as these are also invaluable for the comradery they provide members,” he said.

The Native Orchid Society of Toowoomba meets at 7.30pm on the first Friday of each month at Gold Park.
