Toowoomba man celebrates 40 years’ service as JP

Toowoomba man Ken Telford has been acknowledged for his 40 years’ service to the community as a Justice of the Peace.

Mr Telford became a JP while working for Primac and his duties occasionally involved adjourning court cases while living at Dirranbandi.

“We had a problem there with long weekend shooters on stock routes,” Mr Telford said.

“So on a Tuesday morning, a number of them would appear in front of us and we’d adjourn the court case until the travelling magistrate would be in town,” he said.

“And I was more nervous than the guys standing in front of me.”

Mr Telford had to change careers after badly breaking his leg in 1994.

He needed 12 months off work and completed a real estate licence course while recovering.

He then worked in real estate for 15 years until retiring in 2010.

Mr Telford and his wife are enjoying caravanning in their retirement.
