TOOWOOMBA'S iconic Christmas Wonderland has received a much-needed boost with volunteers now able to beat the heat.

Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki presented the Lions Club of Toowoomba West with a grant for $11,363 which will be used to construct a shade structure for the club's storage facility.

The facility has been the base for the storage of Christmas Wonderland, where volunteers meet twice a week to work on displays and lights.

Club treasurer Merv Symons said volunteers had been working in the open on a concrete slab.

"This new shade structure will protect them from the elements and ensure that the Christmas Wonderland is at its best for the community to continue to enjoy," Mr Symons said.

Mr Janetzki praised the club for its contribution to the community.

"As a father of young daughters, I speak for every parent in Toowoomba when I thank the Lions' volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the Christmas Wonderland," he said.

"The Christmas Wonderland reflects the values our city holds important - family, positivity and community spirit."
