Toowoomba man awarded for 41 years’ service as JP

Toowoomba man Spencer Hill has been recognised for his 41 years’ service as a Justice of the Peace.

Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki MP presented Mr Hill with a commemorative certificate in honour of his 41 years’ service as a JP.

“I congratulate Spencer and thank him for the vital role he plays in our community,” Mr Janetzki said.

Mr Hill became a Justice of the Peace while working for the Bank of NSW (now Westpac).

“I applied for a job at the bank when I was in grade 11, attending the interview in my school uniform,” Mr Hill said.

He got the job and went on to work for Westpac for 47 years, becoming the longest serving bank officer in Queensland.

Mr Hill received a personal phone call and flowers as a thank you from Westpac CEO Gail Kelly when he retired in 2010.

He and his wife Margaret moved to Toowoomba four years ago after searching for a nice place to retire.
